Hosting proxy sites is another simple way to make money on the Web. Proxies are quite popular in countries where government blocks access to certain Web sites. Also, proxies are in demand with kids trying to access online gaming sites from schools, and etc. In short, anyone who needs to bypass a firewall will want to use a proxy.
What is proxy anyway?
Proxy is a computer or an application that fulfills the clients requests by forwarding the requests to other servers. In other words, a proxy stands between the user’s Web browser and a destination Web site and requests information form the destination Web site on behalf of the user and forwards that information to the user.
So, to the destination site, the proxy is the client. That Web site never gets to see the “real” client. Proxies frequently strip the requests from all the client identifying information (cookies, HTML headers, etc.) thus making it impossible for a Web site to know who the real visitor is.
It is very simple to create a proxy site. Here is one of the free scripts that can be used to create a proxy site: Surrogafier. Just get the script, upload it to the server, modify the appearance, and you are basically done.
There are three major problems with proxy sites:
1. They create huge load on the server. So, unless you have a dedicated server hosting or a VPS as minimum, you will not be able to successfully run a proxy site.
2. The proxy sites get banned on a regular bases by countries, schools, etc. So, if you want to be in the proxy business, you have to be prepared to frequently change the proxy site domain so that your proxy site remain accessible to users.
3. Proxy traffic is not considered quality traffic and it does not pay much to display, lets say, Google AdSense ads on a proxy site unless you are getting several thousands of unique visitors to your proxy site a day.
Here is an example of a proxy site I created some time ago: ProxyMaster.info.
